Object Configurator
The Object Configurator in Playground allows you to create interactive object variations — letting end users switch between different design options (e.g., ring heads, pendant shapes, or bracelet links) directly in the embedded 3D viewer.
How It Works
The Object Configurator operates by toggling visibility of objects within a single scene. All object variations are loaded into the scene at once, but only one is visible at a time. When the user selects a different option, the current object is hidden and the selected one is revealed.
Example: A ring with 5 different head designs — all 5 heads are present in the scene, but only the selected one is displayed. Switching between options is instant.
INFO
Because all variations must be included in a single file, this approach results in larger file sizes. The more object variations you add, the heavier the scene becomes.

When to Use
The Playground Object Configurator is suitable for:
- Quick prototyping — testing how different design options look together
- Simple configurations — a small number of variations (2–5 options)
- Internal previews — sharing design alternatives with your team before publishing
Advanced: Ring Configurator on iJewel3D Platform
For production use and customer-facing configurators, we recommend the Ring Configurator available on the iJewel3D Platform.
Instead of loading all variations into one heavy file, the Platform Configurator uses an anchor-based system:
- Components are separate files — each head and shank is an independent, lightweight 3D model
- Anchors define placement — components snap together automatically at predefined anchor points
- Files are swapped dynamically — only the currently selected combination is loaded, keeping performance optimal
- Hundreds of combinations — mix and match heads, shanks, diamond shapes, carat sizes, and materials
This results in significantly smaller file sizes and a smoother user experience, especially for catalogs with many variations.
